Merrick joined Stenham in 1999. He initially worked with the private clients division. In 2000 he took over as Managing Director of the Business Finance division, concentrating on trade finance and related activity. He remains in this role, but also remains active with private client work.

Prior to joining Stenham, Merrick was a partner of Hastings Financial Services, which was acquired by Stenham in 1999. He emigrated to the UK from South Africa in 1988.

Merrick obtained his B Comm from the University of Natal in 1979. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982, whilst doing articles at Arthur Andersen. Prior to his emigration, he was financial director of a large food wholesale company.
